Thanks to sponsoring civic groups, businesses and other organizations, children around the world are beginning their education on a positive note. Through their efforts with the I Like Me! program, these sponsors' labors of love help children see themselves as responsible, worthy young citizens. The volunteer time and funding assistance generously provided by sponsors help foster a positive self-concept, instill a love of reading and build character in children by distributing special readers entitled I Like Me! There are two levels of program materials: I Like Me! for use kindergarten through grade two (children's book available in English, Canadian English and Spanish); and I Like Me! Preschool for younger children (children's book available in English). Each child's book contains personalized statements mentioning the young owners by name, as well as two friends, teacher, principal, school, city, state and sponsor -- making the child a hero in his/her own life! Each I Like Me! book is printed on premium quality paper and hard-bound to last for years -- a treasured momento to keep and read over and over again. The books are provided by sponsors in partnership with Kindergartners Count, Inc., a U.S. 501(c)(3) international not-for-profit organization founded in 1993. The common goal is to create partnerships among parents, schools, businesses and the community. As role models for the future of volunteering, our sponsors are making a significant impact on the lives of children. Together, we are setting the standard for community involvement -- demonstrating to young children that someone cares about them. Sponsors often assist with funding and also help present and read the books to the children, or have the children read to them. Throughout the year, sponsors may coordinate with the school to periodically read to the children as a means of showing their long-term commitment to children's healthy development. By partnering with local businesses and civic organizations, children around the world are enjoying the benefits of the research-based I Like Me! program at no cost to the child or school.
